Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş
Born in Brussels in 1982, Mahinur ÖZDEMIR GÖKTAŞ completed her undergraduate andmaster’s degrees in the Department of Economics, Political and Social Sciences at theUniversité Libre de Bruxelles. Becoming the first headscarf-wearing member of BrusselsParliament in 2009, she served until the year of 2019 as the Deputy Chair of the Social ServicesCommission and the Deputy Chair of the Commission on Equal Opportunities for Men andWomen of the Brussels Parliament. Throughout her political career, she worked in the fields ofwomen’s entrepreneurship, violence against women, domestic violence and equal opportunityin addition to environment and urban planning both in the Brussels Parliament and in variousNGOs. Since 2019, she has been a member of the Women Consultative Council of theOrganization of Islamic Cooperation. She was appointed as the Ambassador of Algeria in 2020,which made her the first woman Ambassador of Türkiye to North Africa. On June 3, 2023, shewas appointed as the Minister of Family and Social Services in the cabinet announced byPresident Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN. She is married and has two children.
