Ahmet Yıldız

H.E. Ambassador Ahmet Yıldız began his career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in 1988, as a Career Diplomat (Candidate) in the Directorate of Human Resources. He then moved to the Directorate General of Middle East Affairs in May 1989, continuing his work as a Candidate Career Diplomat. After serving in the military from April to December 1990, he returned to the Directorate General for Consular Affairs as an Attaché, where he served until October 1991. Ambassador Yıldız served as Third Secretary at the Turkish Embassy in Tripoli from October 1991 to December 1993. Following this, he worked as Vice-Consul at the Turkish Consulate General in Stuttgart from December 1993 to October 1995.

In 1995, he moved to the Directorate General of Protocol in Diplomatic Affairs as Second Secretary and later as First Secretary until 1997. From 1997 to 2000, Ambassador Yıldız was posted as Consul at the Turkish Consulate General in Houston. Afterward, he was assigned to the Turkish Embassy in Damascus as First Secretary/Counsellor from 2000 to 2002. In 2002, he moved to the Directorate General of Security as Chief of Section, a position he held until 2004. He then served as Counsellor at the Turkish Embassy in Riyadh from August 2004 to February 2005 and returned to Damascus as Counsellor until September 2006. In September 2006, he was appointed Consul General at the Turkish Consulate General in Jeddah, where he remained until September 2008.

Ambassador Yıldız continued to hold significant roles in Turkish diplomacy, including Head of Department in the Directorate General of the Special Representative Office of Iraq from September 2008 to September 2009. He also served as Minister Plenipotentiary and Head of the Department of Science from September 2008 to December 2009. From December 2009 to November 2011, he was the First Consul General at the Turkish Consulate General in Mosul. He was appointed Ambassador to the Turkish Embassy in Sarajevo in November 2011, a position he held until July 2014.

Following this, he served as Senior Diplomatic Adviser to the Prime Minister, Ambassador and Member of the Foreign Policy Advisory Board from July 2014 to September 2014. From September 2014 to July 2016, Ambassador Yıldız held the position of Senior Diplomatic Adviser to the President, Ambassador and a member of the Foreign Policy Advisory Board. In July 2016, he was appointed Deputy Minister and Ambassador. Between 2018 and 2023, Ambassador Yıldız was a Member of Parliament in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. He returned to the role of Deputy Minister and Ambassador in June 2023. He has been Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Türkiye to the United Nations since April 2024.
